The visual journey begins in the vast central field, a deep and luminous Ruby Red that forms the ground for a breathtakingly dense “millefleur,” or thousand flowers, design. This entire red expanse is lavishly covered with an interwoven, multi-directional network of fine, scrolling vines and countless tiny blossoms. Every square inch is alive with detail, featuring delicate floral sprigs rendered in a rich palette of Ivory, Sky Blue, Rose Pink, and Sage Green, creating the impression of looking into a magnificent, blooming garden at the peak of its season.
Floating at the heart of this floral sea is a grand and powerful central medallion. Its ground is a contrasting Navy Blue, which makes the intricate patterns within it appear to radiate light. The medallion is a complex, multi-lobed floral rosette, beginning with a tiny, cream-colored center and blossoming outwards in concentric layers of exquisite detail. Within its navy-blue ground, elaborate palmettes and floral forms are woven in the full range of the rug’s accent colors: Ivory, Sky Blue, Rose Pink, Sage Green, and touches of Gold. Ornate pendants extend from the top and bottom of the medallion, enhancing its regal presence.
In the four corners of the red field, large spandrels with a matching Navy Blue ground create a strong architectural frame. These corner pieces are filled with dense floral work that perfectly echoes the motifs and colors of the central medallion, creating a cohesive and harmonious enclosure for the central garden scene.
Containing the entire composition is a formal and intricate border system. The main border is wide and authoritative, set on the same deep Navy Blue ground as the medallion. It features a continuous, repeating pattern of large, ornate palmettes and rosettes in shades of red, pink, and blue, all connected by a flowing vine in Ivory and Sage Green. This grand border is flanked by several narrower guard stripes.
