Modern-day parenthood can be a minefield when it comes to figuring out what’s safe for your child and what’s not. This is why many couples who are having babies for the first time are willing to spend extra for eco-friendly nursery rooms. They want to have a hygienic, secure, and worry-free space for their kids, which you can do too if you know what products to look for.

Why eco-friendly nursery

As much as you want to keep an eye on your kid round-the-clock, it’s just humanly impossible to do, which is why creating a safe and clean space is the next best thing for your cuddly one. ‘Eco-friendly’ isn’t only beneficial to the environment but for people too. Using baby products made from natural ingredients reduces the risk of exposure to toxic elements that are commonly found in synthetic materials like toys, rugs, and furniture – things babies love to touch or put in their mouths.

Designing an eco-friendly nursery area

It takes time and a whole lot of research to design a nursery with eco-friendly products. There are thousands of products being marketed as ‘organic’ and ‘environment-friendly’ but not all of them are 100% accurate. Some items like furniture do use natural fibers but in order to make them durable or fire-resistant, manufacturers often use formaldehyde and other chemicals.

Another challenge in setting up an eco-friendly nursery is the limited number of product options you get. Organic and handwoven rugs, for example, take time to make and cost more than synthetic machine-made carpets. However, you should also consider that eco-friendly products are more durable which gives you bigger savings over time.

Artisanal products may not sound fun when you’re decorating a child’s living and playing space, but many interior designers want to buck the trend of whimsical and childish themes in favor of practical usage of space. This means opting for designs that will last beyond your kid’s toddler years. It’s also called planning for the long-term which your kids will probably thank you when they invite their friends over once they turn into teenagers.

Setting up a nursery room is easier said than done especially one that is environment-friendly. But with all the dangers posed by modern living today, buying organic and eco-friendly products will ultimately prove to be a small price to pay for your family’s health and well-being.
